Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection (HW-SC) in Prince George’s County, Maryland has received awards from three national private foundations in recognition of its success in preparing youth for graduation, college, and career:

  • The Washington, DC-based Freddie Mac Foundation supports programs that demonstrate measurable success in helping youth stay in school and advance their academic goals through college and career planning and real-world work experience. The Foundation has awarded HW-SC $30,000.
  • The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, the largest private, independent, local foundation focused exclusively on the Washington, DC metropolitan area, has recognized HW-SC with a first-time investment of $30,000.
  • The Wells Fargo Corporate Giving Program of Baltimore supports organizations that work to strengthen the community and address vital needs and issues. Wells Fargo has awarded HW-SC a $10,000 grant.

Last year HW-SC served more than 200 students at five schools within the Prince George’s County Public School District. For the 2010 – 2011 school year, 83 percent of students participating in HW-SC either graduated or were promoted to the next grade level, staying on track toward college and career.
